"Indeed, those who took the calf will obtain anger from their Lord and humiliation in the life [of this world]" (Qur'an 7:152), meaning: the jizya (tribute tax). "And thus do We recompense the inventors [of falsehood]" (Qur'an 7:152), meaning: the liars who claimed that the calf was their god.
﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا الْعِجْلَ سَيَنَالُهُمْ غَضَبٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ وَذِلَّةٌ فِي الْحَيَاة﴾ يَعْنِي: الْجِزْيَةَ ﴿وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُفْتَرِينَ﴾ الْكَاذِبِينَ الَّذِينَ زَعَمُوا أَنَّ الْعِجْلَ إلههم
