"It is He who created you from one soul," meaning: Adam. "And made from it its mate," meaning: Eve; He created her from Adam's short, left rib. "And when he covered her, she carried a light burden," up to His saying: "They attributed partners to Him in what He had given them." The interpretation of Al-Kalbi:

She carried a light burden—meaning Eve—so she went about with it, that is, she stood up and sat down with it. Then Satan came to her in a form other than his own and said, "O Eve, what is this in your womb?" She replied, "I do not know." He said, "Perhaps it is a beast from among these beasts." She said, "I do not know." So he turned away from her until she became heavy, then he came to her and said, "How do you find yourself, O Eve?" She said, "I fear it might be that which you frightened me with; I cannot stand when I sit." He said, "Would you see, if you called upon Allah and He made it a human like yourself or like Adam, would you name it after me?" She said, "Yes." So he turned away from her, and she said to Adam, "I fear that what is in my womb might be a beast from among these beasts, and I find a heaviness for it, and I have feared it might be as he said." Adam and Eve had no concern other than this.
