"You did not kill them, but it was Allah who killed them. And you threw not when you threw, but it was Allah who threw." Al-Kalbi said:
When the Messenger of Allah lined up against the polytheists, he called for a handful of pebbles and soil from the valley and threw it into the faces of the polytheists. Allah filled their faces and eyes with the dust and cast terror into their hearts, so they fled, and the believers pursued them, killing and capturing them.
"And that He might test the believers with a good trial from Him." He bestows favor upon the believers by [allowing] them to kill the polytheists.
﴿فَلَمْ تَقْتُلُوهُمْ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ قَتَلَهُمْ وَمَا رميت إِذْ رميت وَلكنه الله رمى﴾ قَالَ الْكَلْبِيُّ:
لَمَّا صَافَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، دَعَا بقبضةٍ مِنْ حَصْبَاءِ الْوَادِي وَتُرَابِهِ، فَرَمَى بِهَا فِي وُجُوهِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، فَمَلأَ اللَّهُ مِنْهَا وُجُوهَهُمْ وَأَعْيُنَهُمْ تُرَابًا، وَقَذَفَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الرُّعْبَ فَانْهَزَمُوا، وَاتَّبَعَهُمُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ يَقْتُلُونَهُمْ وَيَأْسِرُونَهُمْ ".
﴿وَلِيُبْلِيَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْهُ بلَاء حسنا﴾ يُنْعِمُ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِقَتْلِهِمِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ.
