تفسير القرآن العزيز لابن أبي زمنين
مجلد 2 · صفحة 515١٩

الترجمة · EN

"If you [disbelievers] seek the judgment, the judgment has come to you." Al-Kalbi said: It has reached us that when the polytheists lined up against the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) on the day of Badr, they said: "O Allah, our Lord, whoever among us was more beloved to You and more pleasing to You, grant him victory." So Allah granted victory to His Prophet and said: "If you seek the judgment," meaning: if you seek victory, "the judgment has come to you," meaning the victory; that is, Allah has granted victory to His Prophet. "And if you desist," meaning: from fighting Muhammad, "it is better for you; but if you return, We will return," with defeat for you.

Surah al-Anfal, from verse (20) to verse (25).
