[Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them, but if they return] to fighting Muhammad, [then the precedent of the former peoples has already passed] in terms of killing and extermination regarding the Quraysh on the day of Badr, and regarding others among the former peoples.
﴿قُلْ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ يَنْتَهُوا يُغْفَرْ لَهُمْ مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ وَإِن يعودوا﴾ لِقِتَالِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﴿فَقَدْ مَضَتْ سُنَّةُ الْأَوَّلين﴾ بِالْقَتْلِ وَالاسْتِئْصَالِ فِي قُرَيْشٍ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ، وَفِي غَيْرِهِمْ مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ
