[And if you fear] meaning: if you know [betrayal from a people] meaning: a breach of the treaty, [then throw back to them on equal terms] meaning: inform them that you are at war, and all disbelievers shall be equal to you [Indeed, Allah does not like the betrayers] He does not aid them if they breach the treaty.
﴿وَإِمَّا تخافن﴾ أَيْ: تَعْلَمَنَّ ﴿مِنْ قَوْمٍ خِيَانَةً﴾ يَعْنِي: نَقْضًا لِلْعَهْدِ ﴿فَانْبِذْ إِلَيْهِمْ على سَوَاء﴾ أَيْ: أَعْلِمْهُمْ أَنَّكَ حَرْبٌ، وَيَكُونُ الْكُفَّارُ كُلُّهُمْ عِنْدَكَ سَوَاءً ﴿إِنَّ الله لَا يحب الخائنين﴾ لَا يُعِينُهُمْ إِذَا نَقَضُوا الْعَهْدَ.
