"Had it not been for a decree from Allah that had preceded," that you are the ones who consume the spoils of war.
"You would have been touched by a great punishment for what you took." Qatada said: The spoils were not made lawful except for this [community].
﴿لَوْلا كِتَابٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ سَبَقَ﴾ أَنَّكُمْ أَنْتُمُ الَّذِينَ تَأْكُلُونَ الْغَنَائِمَ.
﴿لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَا أَخَذْتُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: لَمْ تَحِلَّ الْغَنِيمَةُ إِلا لِهَذِهِ
