"The Jews say, 'Uzayr is the son of Allah,' and the Christians say, 'The Messiah is the son of Allah.'" Allah, may He be exalted, says: "That is their statement from their mouths."
Muhammad said: The meaning is that it is a statement by the mouth; meaning: there is no proof for it, nor is there any validity to it.
"yudahihu-na" means they resemble; meaning: the Christians "resemble the saying of those who disbelieved before" meaning: the Jews; i.e., the Christians imitated the saying of the Jews before them. The Jews said: 'Uzayr is the son of Allah, and the Christians said: The Messiah is the son of Allah. "May Allah destroy them" means: May Allah curse them.
Muhammad said: It is also said that "qatalahum" (may He destroy them) carries the meaning: may He kill them.
"How are they deluded?" meaning: How are they turned away from the truth and diverted?!
﴿وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ عُزَيْرٌ ابْنُ اللَّهِ وَقَالَتِ النَّصَارَى الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ اللَّهِ﴾ قَالَ اللَّهُ ﷿: ﴿ذَلِكَ قَوْلهم بأفواههم﴾.
قَالَ محمدٌ: الْمَعْنَى: أَنَّهُ قولٌ بفمٍ؛ أَيْ: لَا بُرْهَانَ عَلَيْهِ، وَلَا صِحَة تَحْتَهُ.
﴿يضاهئون﴾ يُشَابِهُونَ؛ يَعْنِي: النَّصَارَى ﴿قَوْلَ الَّذِينَ كفرُوا من قبل﴾ يَعْنِي: الْيَهُودَ؛ أَيْ: ضَاهَتِ النَّصَارَى قَوْلَ الْيَهُودِ قَبْلَهُمْ؛ قَالَتْ الْيَهُودُ: عُزَيْرٌ ابْنُ اللَّهِ، وَقَالَتِ النَّصَارَى: الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ اللَّهِ ﴿قَاتَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ﴾ أَيْ: لَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: وَقيل: ﴿قَاتلهم﴾ بِمَعْنى: قَتلهمْ.
﴿أَنى يؤفكون﴾ كَيْفَ يُقْلَبُونَ عَنِ الْحَقِّ وَيُصْرَفُونَ؟!
