"O you who have believed, indeed many of the scholars and the monks devour the wealth of people unjustly." This means: what they used to take as bribes in judgment, and for what they distorted of the Book of Allah, may He be glorified and exalted.
"And those who hoard gold and silver" until His saying: "So taste what you used to hoard." This means: whoever is obligated to spend in the way of Allah.
Yahya said: And I heard them saying:
Zakat has abrogated every charity (sadaqah) that was before it.
Yahya, from Khalid, from al-Hasan, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever performs [the payment of] Zakat has performed the right of Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, in his wealth, and whoever does more, it is better for him."
