and I caused it to move quickly.
"Desiring for you confusion (fitnah)," meaning: they desire that you be polytheists, and that the polytheists prevail over you. "And among you are those who listen to them," Al-Hasan said: meaning, the hypocrites, for they are spies for the polytheists against you; they listen to your news and then send it to the polytheists.
Surah At-Tawbah from verse (48) to verse (49).
وأوضعته.
﴿يبغونكم الْفِتْنَة﴾ أَيْ: يَبْغُونَ أَنْ تَكُونُوا مُشْرِكِينَ، وَأَنْ يَظْهَرَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمُشْرِكُونَ ﴿وَفِيكُمْ سماعون لَهُم﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: يَعْنِي: الْمُنَافِقِينَ أَنَّهُمْ عيونٌ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ عَلَيْكُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ أَخْبَارِكُمْ، فيرسلون بهَا إِلَى الْمُشْركين.
