[Those who criticize the voluntary givers among the believers regarding their charities]. Qatadah said:
It was mentioned to us that Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf came with half of his wealth to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). I believe he said: O Messenger of Allah, this is half of my wealth which I have brought to you, and I have left the other half for my family.
﴿الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الصَّدقَات﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَة:
ذكر لنا أَن عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ جَاءَ بِنِصْفِ مَالِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، هَذَا نِصْفُ مَالِي أَتَيْتُكَ بِهِ، وَتَرَكْتُ نِصْفَهُ لِعَيَالِي،
