"And do not pray over any of them who has died, ever." Qatada said: It was mentioned to us that a hypocrite died, so the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) shrouded him in his shirt, prayed over him, and lowered him into his grave; then Allah (Mighty and Majestic) revealed:
﴿وَلا تُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ أبدا﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: ذُكِرَ لِنَا أَنَّهُ مَاتَ منافقٌ فَكَفَّنَهُ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ فِي قَمِيصِهِ وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَدَلاهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ؛ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ ﷿
