"In it are men who love to purify themselves; and Allah loves those who purify themselves."
Yahya: From Hammam, from Qatadah, from Shahr ibn Hawshab who said:
When (the verse) was revealed: "In it are men who love to purify themselves; and Allah loves those who purify themselves," the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O assembly of the Ansar, Allah has praised you well regarding purification; so how is your purification with water?" They replied: "We wash the traces of excrement with water," from the hadith of Yahya ibn Muhammad.
Yahya said:
It reached us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) summoned the hypocrites who had built that mosque and said: "What compelled you to build this mosque?" They swore by Allah: "We intended nothing but good," (while) "Allah testifies that they are liars."
﴿فِيهِ رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَتَطَهَّرُوا وَالله يحب المطهرين﴾.
يحيى: عَنْ هَمَّامٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ قَالَ:
لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ: ﴿فِيهِ رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَتَطَهَّرُوا وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُطَّهِّرِينَ﴾ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: يَا مَعْشَرَ الأَنْصَارِ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَحْسَنَ عَلَيْكُمُ الثَّنَاءَ فِي الطُّهُورِ؛ فَكَيْفَ طُهُورِكُمْ بِالْمَاءِ؟ قَالُوا: نَغْسِلُ أَثَرَ الْخَلاءِ بِالْمَاءِ " مِنْ حَدِيثِ يحيى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ.
قَالَ يحيى:
وَبَلَغَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ دَعَا الْمُنَافِقِينَ الَّذِينَ بَنَوْا ذَلِكَ الْمَسْجِدَ، فَقَالَ: مَا حَمَلَكُمْ عَلَى بِنَاءِ هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ؟ فَحَلَفُوا بِاللَّهِ إِنَّ أَرَدْنَا إِلا الْحُسْنَى، ﴿وَاللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ﴾.
