"Why do the rabbis and the learned men not forbid them," until His saying: "How wretched is that which they have been practicing," meaning: when they hasten into sin and aggression and the consumption of the unlawful. How wretched is what the rabbis and the learned men practiced when they did not forbid them from that.
﴿لَوْلا يَنْهَاهُمُ الرَّبَّانِيُّونَ وَالأَحْبَارُ﴾ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: ﴿لَبِئْسَ مَا كَانُوا يَصْنَعُونَ﴾ أَيْ: حِينَ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ، وَأَكْلِهِمُ السُّحْتَ، وَبِئْسَ مَا صَنَعَ الرَّبَّانِيُّونَ وَالْأَحْبَارُ حِينَ لَمْ ينهوهم عَن ذَلِك.
