"And when We cause the people to taste," meaning: the polytheists, "mercy," meaning: well-being, "after hardship has touched them," meaning: after an illness or severity that afflicted them, "at once they have a plan concerning Our signs." Al-Hasan said: meaning: denial and rejection of our religion. "Say, Allah is swifter in planning." Al-Hasan said: meaning: in punishment. "Indeed, Our messengers," meaning: the recording angels, "record that which you plan," meaning: the polytheists.
﴿وَإِذا أذقنا النَّاس﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُشْركين ﴿رَحْمَة﴾ عَافِيَةً ﴿مِنْ بَعْدِ ضَرَّاءَ مَسَّتْهُمْ﴾ يَعْنِي: مِنْ بَعْدِ مرضٍ أَوْ شِدَّةٍ أَصَابَتْهُمْ ﴿إِذَا لَهُمْ مَكْرٌ فِي آيَاتنَا﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: يَعْنِي: جُحُودًا وَتَكْذِيبًا لِدِينِنَا ﴿قُلِ اللَّهُ أَسْرَعُ مَكْرًا﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: يَعْنِي: عَذَابًا ﴿إِنَّ رسلنَا﴾ يَعْنِي: الْحَفَظَةَ ﴿يَكْتُبُونَ مَا تَمْكُرُونَ﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُشْركين.
