"And it was not [possible for] this Quran to be produced by other than Allah," He says: No one could have fabricated it, so as to bring it forth from his own self. "But [it is] a confirmation of what was before it," of the Torah and the Gospel, "and a detailed explanation of the Book," regarding the lawful and the prohibited, the rulings, and the promise and the threat, "there is no doubt about it," meaning there is no uncertainty regarding it.

Muhammad says: His statement "to be produced" means: for it to be fabricated, meaning: forged. As for one who read [the word] "tastidiqu" (confirmation) as nominative: it is a confirmation. And one who read it in the accusative: the meaning is, "but it was a confirmation."

﴿وَمَا كَانَ هَذَا الْقُرْآن أَنْ يُفْتَرَى مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ﴾ يَقُولُ: لمْ يَكُنْ أحدٌ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَن يفتريه؛ فَيَأْتِي يه مِنْ قِبَلِ نَفْسِهِ ﴿وَلَكِنْ تَصْدِيقَ الَّذِي بَين يَدَيْهِ﴾ مِنَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَالإِنْجِيلِ ﴿وَتَفْصِيلَ الْكِتَابِ﴾ مِنَ الْحَلالِ وَالْحَرَامِ، وَالأَحْكَامِ، وَالْوَعْدِ والوعيد ﴿لَا ريب فِيهِ﴾ لَا شكّ فِيهِ.

قَالَ محمدٌ: قَوْله: ﴿أَن يفترى﴾ أَيْ: لأَنْ يُفْتَرَى، يَعْنِي: يُخْتَلَقُ. وَمَنْ قَرَأَ (تَصْدِيقُ): هُوَ تصديقٌ، وَمَنْ نَصَبَ فَالْمَعْنَى: وَلَكِنْ كَانَ تَصْدِيقَ
