"Say, have you seen what Allah has sent down to you of provision, and you have made some of it forbidden and lawful?"—meaning what they forbade from the livestock and their crops.

"Say, has Allah permitted you [to do so]"—that is: Did He command you regarding what you have done of that? It means that He did not do so. "Or do you invent [a lie] about Allah?"
