"We said: Carry therein two of each pair," meaning: Carry two pairs of every kind; the singular is 'zawj' (a pair/mate), and two are 'zawjan' (two pairs). Thus, he carried therein all that Allah, may He be exalted, created of livestock, vermin, beasts of prey, land creatures, birds, and trees. They complained to Noah in the ark about the dung, so Allah, may He be exalted, revealed to Noah that he should wipe his hand over the tail of the elephant. He did so, and two pigs emerged from it, and they began to eat the dung. They complained to Allah about the mice, so Allah, may He be exalted, revealed to the lion—or cast into its heart—and the lion sneezed, and two cats emerged from its nostrils, and they began to eat the mice. They also complained to Noah about the ferocity of the lion, so Noah prayed against it, and Allah, may He be exalted, afflicted it with fever.
Al-Hasan said: The length of the ark, according to what has reached us, was one thousand two hundred cubits, and its width was six hundred cubits.
Yahya said: Some of them said: Its head was like the head of a dove, and its tail like the tail of a rooster, fully enclosed, moving between two waters: the water of the sky and the water of the earth.
Yahya said: And it reached me that there were three doors in the ark: a door for the beasts of prey and birds, a door for the livestock, and a door for the people. The men and women were separated by the body of Adam, which Noah carried with him.
