"[He] said, 'O Noah, indeed he is not of your family'—those whom I promised you I would save—and his [son] used to manifest faith while concealing polytheism, and Noah did not know [this], according to the interpretation of al-Ḥasan. Al-Ḥasan said: 'Were it not for that, he would not have called out to him, for he knew that Allah, the Exalted, was going to drown the disbelievers, and that He had decreed that if the punishment descended upon a people who had denied their messenger and then believed, it would not be accepted from them.'
'Indeed, he is an act other than righteous.' It means: 'Your asking Me for what you have no knowledge of is an act other than righteous.' (fol. 147) 'So ask Me not for that of which you have no knowledge.' Al-Ḥasan said, meaning: 'You did not know what he was concealing of hypocrisy.'
﴿قَالَ يَا نُوحُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ من أهلك﴾ الَّذِينَ وَعَدْتُكَ أَنْ أُنَجِّيَهُمْ، وَكَانَ (ابْنُهُ) يُظْهِرُ الإِيمَانَ وَيُسِرُّ الشِّرْكَ، ونوحٌ لَا يَعْلَمُ؛ فِي تَفْسِيرِ الْحَسَنِ. قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: وَلَوْلا ذَلِكَ لمْ يُنَادِهِ؛ وَهُوَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ ﷿ مُغْرِقٌ الْكُفَّارَ، وَأَنَّهُ قَضَى أَنَّهُ إِذَا نَزَلَ الْعَذَابُ عَلَى قومٍ كَذَّبُوا رَسُولَهُمْ ثُمَّ آمَنُوا، لمْ يُقْبَلْ مِنْهُمْ.
﴿إِنَّه عمل غير صَالح﴾ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ سُؤَالَكَ إِيَّايَ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ علمٌ عَمَلٌ غير صَالح (ل ١٤٧) ﴿فَلا تَسْأَلْنِ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ علم﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ أَيْ: أَنَّكَ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ.
