She said, "Woe to me! Shall I bear a child when I am an old woman and this, my husband, is an old man?" She had ceased to be able to bear children. "Indeed, this is an amazing thing." They said, "Do you marvel at the command of Allah? The mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, O people of the house. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy, Glorious," meaning: praised by His creation, glorious and generous.
Muhammad said: Whoever reads "Ya'qub" in the nominative case (ar-raf'), it is based on the meaning: "And Jacob shall be born to her after Isaac." And whoever reads "hādha ba'lī shaykhan" (this, my husband, as an old man), it is in the accusative state of adverbial description (hal); the meaning is:
﴿قَالَت يَا ويلتى أَأَلِدُ وَأَنَا عَجُوزٌ وَهَذَا بَعْلِي شَيخا﴾ وَكَانَتْ قَدْ قَعَدَتْ عَنِ الْوَلَدِ ﴿إِنَّ هَذَا لشيءٌ عَجِيبٌ قَالُوا أَتَعْجَبِينَ من أَمر الله رَحْمَة اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ إِنَّه حميدٌ مجيد﴾ مستحمدٌ إِلَى خَلْقِهِ، مجيدٌ كريمٌ.
قَالَ محمدٌ: مَنْ قَرَأَ (يَعْقُوبُ) بِالرَّفْعِ فَعَلَى مَعْنَى: وَيَعْقُوبُ يَحْدُثُ لَهَا مِنْ وَرَاءِ إِسْحَاقَ، وَمَنْ قَرَأَ: (هَذَا بعلي شَيخا) فَعَلَى الْحَالِ؛ الْمَعْنَى:
