"And his people came rushing to him," meaning: they were hastening.
Muhammad said: It is said, 'uhri'a ar-rajul' (the man was made to rush), meaning: he hurried, using the passive voice. "And from before, they had been committing evil deeds," meaning: they would approach men from their rear; some of them would not do this to each other, but they only did it to strangers. "He said, 'O my people, these are my daughters; they are purer for you,'" meaning: more lawful for you than men. Qatada said: He commanded them to marry women.
Muhammad said: Abu Ubayd mentioned from Mujahid that he said: Every prophet is the father of his nation, and he only meant by 'my daughters': the women of his nation.
Abu Ubayd said: This is similar to what is narrated regarding the recitation of Ubayy ibn Ka'b: 'The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers, and he is a father to them.'"
