Muhammad said: The "manih" is an arrow upon which there is no writing; if it comes out, he repeats the casting. It is said: "yassarta" (you have gambled) when you cast the arrows, and the one who casts them is a "yasir" [the plural is "yusr" and "aysar"]. His statement: "Rijs (abomination) from the work of Satan" up to His saying: "So will you not be deterred?" Thus, the prohibition of intoxicants came in this verse, both small and large quantities thereof, whatever intoxicates of it and whatever does not intoxicate.
Muhammad said: "Rijs" in the language is a name for everything that is considered impure, and it is said: "rajusa al-rajulu yarjusu" when he performs an ugly deed.
Yahya, from Muhammad ibn Abi Humayd, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever drinks intoxicants, then does not become intoxicated, Allah will turn away from him for forty nights; and whoever drinks intoxicants, then becomes intoxicated, Allah will not accept from him any obligatory or supererogatory deed for forty nights. If he dies during that time, he dies like a worshiper of idols, and it would be a duty upon Allah to give him to drink on the Day of Resurrection from 'tinat al-khabal' (the mire of corruption)." It was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the mire of corruption?" He said: "The dregs of the people of Hell in the Fire: pus and blood."
