"And thus your Lord will choose you," meaning: He will choose you for prophethood. "And teach you the interpretation of events," Mujahid said: meaning, the interpretation of dreams.

Al-Hasan said: meaning, the consequences of affairs which are not known except through the revelation of prophethood. "And complete His favor upon you and upon the family of Jacob." God had informed him that He would grant prophethood to all of the children of Jacob.
