"Say: Sufficient is Allah as a Witness between me and you." Muhammad [Ibn Abi Zamanin] said: The meaning is: Allah is sufficient as a Witness. The accusative case (nasb) is permissible for his statement "as a Witness" (shahidan) in two ways: If you wish, it may be based on distinction (tamyiz), meaning: Allah is sufficient from among the witnesses; or if you wish, it may be based on the state (hal), meaning: Allah is sufficient in the state of witnessing. "And what has prevented the people from believing"—the place of "an" (that) is in the accusative case, and his statement "except that they said"—the place of "an" (that) is in the nominative case. The meaning is: Nothing prevented them from believing except their saying.
