"Until, when they arrive, He will say," God, "Did you deny My signs while you did not encompass them in knowledge?" Meaning: You did not have knowledge that what you worshiped besides Me created anything with Me, nor did they provide anything with Me, and your worship of them was not based on any encompassing knowledge you possessed; it was merely based on conjecture. "Or what was it that you used to do?" He questions them, while He is more knowledgeable of that than they are; [all this] is to establish proof against them.
﴿حَتَّى إِذا جَاءُوا قَالَ﴾ اللَّهُ ﴿أَكَذَّبْتُمْ بِآيَاتِي وَلَمْ تُحِيطُوا بهَا علما﴾ أَيْ: لَمْ تُحِيطُوا عِلْمًا بِأَنَّ مَا عَبَدْتُمْ مِنْ دُونِي خَلَقُوا مَعِي شَيْئًا، وَلَا رَزَقُوا مَعِي شَيْئًا، وَإِنَّ عِبَادَتَكُمْ إِيَّاهُمْ لَمْ تَكُنْ مِنْكُمْ بِإِحَاطَةِ عِلْمٍ عَلِمْتُمُوهُ، إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ عَلَى الظَّن ﴿أماذا كُنْتُم تَعْمَلُونَ﴾ يَسْتَفْهِمُهُمْ، وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِذَلِكَ مِنْهُمْ؛ يحْتَج عَلَيْهِم
