"Only I have been commanded"—meaning: Say, O Muhammad: 'I have only been commanded to worship the Lord of this city'—meaning: Makkah—'which He has made sacred.'
﴿إِنَّمَا أمرت﴾ أَيْ: قُلْ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ: إِنَّمَا أُمِرْتُ ﴿أَنْ أَعْبُدَ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الْبَلدة﴾ يَعْنِي: مَكَّةَ ﴿الَّذِي حَرَّمَهَا﴾.
