Then He said: "You have only taken idols instead of Allah out of affection between you in the life of this world." That is: you love one another for the sake of worshipping idols in the life of this world.
Muhammad said: "Mawaddatan" (affection) is in the accusative case, meaning: you have taken this for the sake of affection. "Then on the Day of Resurrection, you will deny one another." That is: some of you will disavow others.
﴿ثمَّ قَالَ إِنَّمَا اتَّخَذْتُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أوثانا مَوَدَّة بَيْنكُم﴾ أَيْ: يُحِبُّ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضًا عَلَى عِبَادَةِ الْأَوْثَانِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا.
قَالَ مُحَمَّد: (مَوَدَّة) مَنْصُوبٌ بِمَعْنَى: اتَّخَذْتُمْ هَذَا لِلْمَوَدَّةِ. ﴿ثُمَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يَكْفُرُ بَعْضُكُمْ بِبَعْض﴾ أَيْ: يَتَبَرَّأُ بَعْضُكُمْ مِنْ بَعْضٍ
