(His mother bore him with weakness upon weakness), meaning: weakness upon weakness.
Muhammad said: The meaning is that she was required, by carrying him, to become weak time after time.
﴿حَمَلَتْهُ أُمُّهُ وَهنا على وَهن﴾ أَيْ: ضَعْفًا عَلَى ضَعْفٍ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: الْمَعْنَى: لَزِمَهَا لِحَمْلِهَا إِيَّاهُ أَنْ تَضْعُفَ مَرَّةً بَعْدَ مَرَّةٍ.
