﴿أشحة عَلَيْكُم﴾ [being stingy toward you], he says: they do not leave for you any of their rights from the spoils of war. ﴿فَإِذَا جَاءَ الْخَوْف﴾ [Then when fear comes], meaning: the fighting. ﴿رَأَيْتَهُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ تَدُورُ أَعْيُنُهُمْ كَالَّذِي يُغْشَى عَلَيْهِ من الْمَوْت﴾ [you see them looking at you, their eyes revolving like one being overcome by death], out of fear of the fighting. ﴿فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ الْخَوْف سلقوكم﴾ [Then when fear departs, they lash out at you], meaning: they shout at you, ﴿بِأَلْسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍ﴾ [with sharp tongues]. Muhammad said: It was said: the meaning is: they address you with the harshest of address.
﴿أشحة عَلَيْكُم﴾ يَقُولُ: لَا يَتْرُكُونَ لَكُمْ مِنْ حُقُوقِهِمْ مِنَ الْغَنِيمَةِ شَيْئًا ﴿فَإِذَا جَاءَ الْخَوْف﴾ يَعْنِي: الْقِتَالَ ﴿رَأَيْتَهُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ تَدُورُ أَعْيُنُهُمْ كَالَّذِي يُغْشَى عَلَيْهِ من الْمَوْت﴾ خَوْفًا مِنَ الْقِتَالِ ﴿فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ الْخَوْف سلقوكم﴾ أَيْ: صَاحُوا عَلَيْكُمْ ﴿بِأَلْسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍ﴾ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: قِيلَ: الْمَعْنَى: خَاطَبُوكُمْ أَشَدَّ مُخَاطَبَةٍ
