﴿لِيَجْزِيَ اللَّهُ الصَّادِقِينَ بِصِدْقِهِمْ وَيُعَذِّبَ الْمُنَافِقين إِن شَاءَ﴾ [That Allah may reward the truthful for their truthfulness and punish the hypocrites if He wills], meaning: if they die in their hypocrisy, He will punish them, ﴿أَو يَتُوب عَلَيْهِم﴾ [or He may accept their repentance], so they return from their hypocrisy.
