Muhammad said: The root of the word is the horns of cattle, because they defend themselves with them and ward off harm from themselves. Thus, fortresses were called "sayasi" because they provide protection. The "sisiyah" (spur) of a rooster is its barb, because it fortifies itself with it.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: أَصْلُ الْكَلِمَةِ: قُرُونُ الْبَقَرِ؛ لِأَنَّهَا تَمْتَنِعُ بِهَا وَتَدْفَعُ عَنْ أَنْفُسِهَا، فَقِيلَ لِلْحُصُونِ: صَيَاصِيُّ؛ لِأَنَّهَا تَمْنَعُ وَصِيصِيَةُ الدِّيكِ شَوْكَتُهُ؛ لِأَنَّهُ يتحصن بهَا.
