"Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women"—this is one [unified] concept, just as His saying: "Then We brought out whoever was in it of the believers, and We found not within it [other than] one house of the Muslims." Islam is the name of the religion. He said: "And whoever desires other than Islam as a religion—never will it be accepted from him." And it is faith in Allah. "And the obedient men and obedient women"—al-qunut is obedience. "And the truthful men and truthful women, and the patient men and patient women"—regarding that which Allah has commanded them. "And the humble men and humble women"—which is the fear fixed in the heart. "And the charitable men and charitable women"—meaning the obligatory zakat. "And the fasting men and fasting women."

Yahya said: It has reached me that whoever fasts Ramadan and three days of every month, he is considered among the fasting men and fasting women. "And those who guard their private parts and those who guard [them]"—from that which is not lawful for them. "And the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so"—meaning with the tongue; and there is no [set] time for [the act of] remembrance (dhikr).
