("That is Jesus, the son of Mary, the word of truth"). Al-Hasan said: The Truth is Allah.
Muhammad said: Whoever recites (qawlu) in the nominative case (raf'), the meaning is: He is the word of the Truth. ("concerning whom they are in doubt"). Qatadah said: The Jews and the Christians disputed concerning him; as for the Jews, they claimed that he was a liar and a magician, and as for the Christians, they claimed that he was the son of Allah and the third of three [and a god].
﴿ذَلِكَ عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ قَوْلَ الْحق﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: الْحَقُّ: هُوَ اللَّهُ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: مَنْ قَرَأَ (قَوْلُ) بِالرَّفْعِ؛ فَالْمَعْنَى: هُوَ قَوْلُ الْحَقِّ. ﴿الَّذِي فِيهِ يمترون﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: امْتَرَتْ فِيهِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى؛ أَمَّا الْيَهُودُ؛ فَزَعَمُوا أَنَّهُ سَاحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ، وَأَمَّا النَّصَارَى فَزَعَمُوا أَنَّهُ ابْنُ اللَّهِ وَثَالِثُ ثَلَاثَةٍ [وإله]
