a connector, meaning: he might be reminded and fear [Allah].
Muhammad said: "Laʿalla" (perhaps) in the language carries the meaning of hope and expectation. Thus, the meaning is: Go both of you with your hope and your expectation; for Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, knew that he would neither be reminded nor fear.
صِلَةٌ يَقُولُ: لَعَلَّهُ يَتَذَكَّرُ وَيَخْشَى.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: (لَعَلَّ) فِي اللُّغَةِ مَعْنَاهَا: التَّرَجِّي وَالطَّمَعُ، فَالْمَعْنَى: اذْهَبَا عَلَى رَجَائِكُمَا وَطَمَعِكُمَا؛ وَقَدْ عَلِمَ اللَّهُ ﷿ أَنَّهُ لَا يتَذَكَّر وَلَا يخْشَى.
