"They both said, 'Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will hasten [punishment] against us,'" meaning: that he will impose a punishment upon us, "'or that he will transgress,'" meaning: and thus kill us.
﴿قَالا رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا نَخَافُ أَنْ يفرط علينا﴾ أَي: يَجْعَل عَلَيْنَا عُقُوبَةً مِنْهُ ﴿أَوْ أَنْ يطغى﴾ فيقتلنا
