"Indeed, these two are sorcerers," meaning: Moses and Aaron.
Muhammad said: His saying: "these two" (hadhani) in the nominative case; Abu Ubaidah mentioned that this is a dialect of [the tribe of] Kinanah. They keep the 'alif' of the dual in the nominative, genitive, and accusative cases in one and the same form. The scholars of Arabic have much to say regarding this, with a long-standing disagreement that would be too extensive to mention, besides what Abu Ubaidah mentioned. "And take away your exemplary way [of life]," meaning: your most ideal livelihood. He means: the Children of Israel. The Children of Israel were among the Copts in the status of the People of Jizya (poll-tax) among us; they would take tribute from them and enslave them.
﴿إِن هَذَانِ لساحران﴾ يَعْنِي: مُوسَى وَهَارُونَ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: قَوْله: ﴿هَذَانِ﴾ بِالرَّفْعِ؛ ذَكَرَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ أَنَّهَا لُغَةٌ لِكِنَانَةَ؛ يَجْعَلُونَ أَلْفَ الِاثْنَيْنِ فِي الرَّفْعِ وَالْخَفْضِ وَالنَّصْبِ عَلَى لَفْظٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَلِأَهْلِ الْعَرَبِيَّةِ فِيهِ كَلَامٌ كَثِيرٌ، وَاخْتِلَافٌ يَطُولُ ذِكْرُهُ، غَيْرُ الَّذِي ذَكَرَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ. ﴿ويذهبا بطريقتكم المثلى﴾ أَيْ: بِعَيْشِكُمُ الْأَمْثَلِ؛ يَعْنِي: بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، وَكَانَ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ فِي الْقِبْطِ بِمَنْزِلَةِ أَهْلِ الْجِزْيَةِ فِينَا؛ يَأْخُذُونَ مِنْهُم الْخراج ويستعبدونهم
