[Moses] said to him: "Then go, for your [punishment] in this life" (meaning: the life of this world) "is that you shall say: No contact," (meaning: you shall not mix with people, nor shall they mix with you). This is your punishment in this world, and for whoever follows your religion until the Day of Resurrection, and the Samira are a sect of the Jews.
Qatada said: It is said: The Samira are in the land of the Levant to this day, and they say: "No contact."
His saying: "And you have an appointment which you will not miss," means: the Day of Resurrection, when God will reward you for your worst deeds. "And look at your god which you remained" (i.e., continued) "devoted to" (in worship of) "- we will surely burn it and we will surely scatter it [into the sea]."
Muhammad said: To scatter (al-nasf) is to winnow (to blow away).
Al-Kalbi said: Moses slaughtered it, then burned it with fire, then scattered it into the sea.
﴿قَالَ﴾ لَهُ مُوسَى: ﴿فَاذْهَبْ فَإِنَّ لَكَ فِي الْحَيَاة﴾ (يَعْنِي: حَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا ﴿أَنْ تَقُولَ لَا مساس﴾ يَعْنِي: لَا تُخَالِطَ النَّاسَ، وَلَا يُخَالِطُونَكَ) فَهَذِهِ عُقُوبَتُكَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَمِنْ كَانَ عَلَى دِينِكَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ، وَالسَّامِرَةُ صِنْفٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ.
قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: يُقَالُ: السَّامِرَةُ حَتَّى الْآنَ بِأَرْضِ الشَّامِ، يَقُولُونَ: لَا مِسَاسَ.
قَوْلُهُ: ﴿وَإِنَّ لَكَ موعدا لن تخلفه﴾ يَعْنِي: يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَيَجْزِيَكَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ بأسوإ عَمَلِكَ ﴿وَانْظُرْ إِلَى إِلَهِكَ الَّذِي ظلت عَلَيْهِ﴾ أَي: صرت عَلَيْهِ ﴿عاكفا﴾ على عِبَادَته (ل ٢١٠) ﴿لنحرقنه ثمَّ لننسفنه﴾.
مُحَمَّدٌ: النَّسْفُ: التَّذْرِيَةُ.
قَالَ الْكَلْبِيُّ: ذَبَحَهُ مُوسَى، ثُمَّ أَحْرَقَهُ بِالنَّارِ، ثمَّ ذراه فِي الْبَحْر.
