they whisper to one another: "You stayed" in the world "only ten [days]," minimizing their stay in the world.
Muhammad [Ibn Abi Zamanin] said: The root of al-khufut (whispering) in the language is stillness. It is said: The speech softened or the supplication softened (khafata), when it becomes silent.
يتسارون ﴿إِن لبثتم﴾ فِي الدُّنْيَا ﴿إِلَّا عشرا﴾ يُقَلِّلُونَ لَبْثَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: الْخُفُوتُ أَصْلُهُ فِي اللُّغَةِ: السُّكُونُ؛ يُقَالُ: خَفَتَ الْكَلَامُ وَخَفَتَ الدُّعَاء؛ إِذا سكن.
