"And whoever turns away from My remembrance"—meaning, he does not believe—"indeed, he will have a depressed life [ma'ishatan dankan]."
Yahya narrated from Abdullah ibn 'Urada, from Muhammad ibn 'Amr, from Abu Salamah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said regarding "a depressed life [ma'ishatan dankan]": "It means: punishment."
﴿وَمن أعرض عَن ذكري﴾ فَلَمْ يُؤْمِنْ ﴿فَإِنَّ لَهُ مَعِيشَةً ضنكا﴾.
يَحْيَى: عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُرَادَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: ﴿مَعِيشَةً ضنكا﴾ " يَعْنِي: عَذَابَ
