"And they say, 'The Most Merciful has taken a son'"—Qatada said: The Jews said: Allah intermarried with the jinn, and from them were the angels. Allah said: "Exalted is He"—He declares Himself free from what they have said—"rather, they are but honored servants"—meaning: the angels are honorable to Allah.
﴿وَقَالُوا اتخذ الرَّحْمَن ولدا﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: قَالَتِ اليَهُودُ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ صَاهَرَ إِلَى الْجِنِّ، فَكَانَتْ مِنْ بَيْنِهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ. قَالَ اللَّهُ: ﴿سُبْحَانَهُ﴾ يُنَزِّهُ نَفْسَهُ عَمَّا قَالُوا ﴿بَلْ عباد مكرمون﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمَلَائِكَةَ هُمْ كِرَامٌ عَلَى الله
