"And when those who disbelieve see you"—He says this to the Prophet—"they take you only for mockery: 'Is this the one who mentions your gods?'" meaning: who disparages and insults them. Some of them say this to others. Allah said: "While they, at the mention of the Most Merciful, are disbelievers."
﴿وَإِذا رآك الَّذين كفرُوا﴾ يَقُولُهُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﴿إِنْ يَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلا هُزُوًا أَهَذَا الَّذِي يَذْكُرُ آلِهَتَكُمْ﴾ أَيْ: يَعِيبُهَا وَيَشْتِمُهَا، يَقُولُهُ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ. قَالَ اللَّهُ: ﴿وَهُمْ بِذِكْرِ الرَّحْمَنِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ﴾.
