God says: "If those who disbelieved only knew the time when they will not be able to ward off the Fire from their faces" (the verse, and there is a transposition in it, meaning: the promise which they were hastening in the worldly life is the Day when they will not be able to ward off the Fire from their faces) "nor from their backs, and they will not be helped." If those who disbelieved only knew,
قَالَ اللَّهُ: ﴿لَوْ يَعْلَمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا حِينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَنْ وُجُوههم النَّار﴾ الْآيَةُ (وَفِيهَا تَقْدِيمٌ؛ أَيْ: أَنَّ الْوَعْد الَّذِي كَانُوا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا هُوَ يَوْمُ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَنْ وُجُوهِهِمُ النَّارَ) ﴿وَلا عَنْ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَلا هم ينْصرُونَ﴾ لَو يعلم الَّذين كفرُوا
