"And the true promise has approached," meaning: the final blowing of the Trumpet. "And suddenly the eyes of those who disbelieved will stare fixedly" at the response to the caller. "Woe to us," they will say: Woe to us, "we were in neglect of this," meaning: their denial of the Hour. "Rather, we were wrongdoers" to ourselves.
﴿واقترب الْوَعْد الْحق﴾ يَعْنِي: النَّفْخَةَ الْآخِرَةَ ﴿فَإِذَا هِيَ شاخصة أبصار الَّذين كفرُوا﴾ إِلَى إِجَابَةِ الدَّاعِي. ﴿يَا وَيْلَنَا﴾ يَقُولُونَ: يَا وَيْلَنَا ﴿قَدْ كُنَّا فِي غَفلَة من هَذَا﴾ يَعْنُونَ: تَكْذِيبَهُمْ بِالسَّاعَةِ ﴿بَلْ كُنَّا ظالمين﴾ لأنفسنا
