"They will have therein a groaning (zafir)" – the interpretation of 'zafir' and 'shahiq' has already passed. "And they will not hear therein." Ibn Mas'ud said: "When those who are to remain in the Fire forever are left, they will be placed in coffins of fire that have nails of fire, then these coffins will be placed inside other coffins, then those coffins will be placed inside yet other coffins; so they will not see that anyone else is being punished in the Fire but themselves." Then Ibn Mas'ud recited: "They will have therein a groaning, and they will not hear therein."
Surat al-Anbiya' from (verse 101 to verse 104).
﴿لَهُم فِيهَا زفير﴾ قَدْ مَضَى تَفْسِيرُ الزَّفِيرِ وَالشَّهِيقِ ﴿وهم فِيهَا لَا يسمعُونَ﴾ قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ: إِذَا بَقَى فِي النَّارِ مَنْ يَخْلُدُ فِيهَا جُعِلُوا فِي تَوَابِيتَ مِنْ نَارٍ فِيهَا مَسَامِيرٌ مِنْ نَارٍ، ثُمَّ جُعِلَتِ التَّوَابِيتُ فِي تَوَابِيتَ أُخَرَ، ثُمَّ جُعِلَتْ تِلْكَ التَّوَابِيتُ فِي تَوَابِيتَ أُخَرَ؛ فَلا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّ أَحَدًا يُعَذَّبُ فِي النَّارِ غَيْرَهَمْ. ثُمَّ قَرَأَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ: ﴿لَهُمْ فِيهَا زَفِيرٌ وَهُمْ فِيهَا لَا يسمعُونَ﴾.
