"And [mention, O Muhammad], when We designated for Abraham the site of the House [meaning: We informed him of it].
"And purify My House" [meaning: from the worship of idols, false speech, and acts of disobedience].
"And purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who stand [in prayer]." Qatada said: By "those who stand," he means the people of Mecca.
"And those who bow and prostrate" [meaning: they are those who pray towards it].
﴿وَإِذْ بَوَّأْنَا لإِبْرَاهِيمَ مَكَانَ الْبَيْتِ﴾ أَي: أعلمناه. ﴿وطهر بَيْتِي﴾ أَي: من عبَادَة الْأَوْثَان وَقَول الزُّورِ وَالْمَعَاصِي ﴿وَطَهِّرْ بَيْتِيَ لِلطَّائِفِينَ والقائمين﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: يَعْنِي بِالْقَائِمِينَ: أَهْلَ مَكَّة ﴿والركع السُّجُود﴾ هم الَّذين يصلونَ إِلَيْهِ.
