“Then they broke their affair among themselves” (Quran 23:53), meaning: their religion which Allah commanded. “Zuburan” (into sects/books), which is read in two ways: “zubaran” with a fathah on the ba', and “zuburan” (with a damma on the ba'). Whoever reads it with the fathah, the meaning is: into pieces. Whoever reads it with the damma, the meaning is: books. He is saying: They divided the Book of Allah, so they distorted it, altered it, and wrote it according to what they had distorted. “Each faction” – meaning: a group among them – “in what they have” – meaning: in what they possess of that wherein they differed – “rejoicing” – meaning: content.
