[Straying away] because of it, meaning: because of the Sanctuary. [While boasting, you talk nonsense] meaning: you speak with vain and reprehensible speech.
Qatada said: He means by this: the people of Mecca. Their evening gatherings were fearless. They used to say: We are the people of the Sanctuary, so we shall not be approached due to the security Allah has given them, yet along with that, they speak in polytheism and fabrication.
Regarding the recitation according to the interpretation of Qatada: It is with a damma on the ta' and a kasra on the jim. Al-Hasan used to recite it: (tahjuruna) with a fatha on the ta' and a damma on the jim; its interpretation is: turning away and abandonment. He says: Your security has reached the point that your evening gatherings [are held] in the Bat'ha; meaning: the night conversations, while the Arabs kill one another and take one another captive, and you, in that state, abandon My Book and My Messenger.
Muhammad said: It is said: This is the night gathering of the tribe; it refers to those who converse among them at night.
