"That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind" (Quran 23:100), meaning: in that which I neglected. Allah said: You are not returning to the worldly life. Then He said: "No! It is only a word he is saying" (Quran 23:100), meaning: this statement: "My Lord, send me back, that I might do righteousness in that which I left behind." "And behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected" (Quran 23:100). Al-Suddi said: The Barzakh (barrier) is what is between the two blasts of the Trumpet.
Muhammad [Ibn Abi Zamanin] said: Everything that is between two things is a barzakh (barrier).
﴿لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صَالِحًا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ﴾ يَعْنِي: فِيمَا ضَيَّعْتُ. قَالَ اللَّهُ: لَسْتَ بِرَاجِعٍ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: ﴿كَلَّا إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَائِلهَا﴾ يَعْنِي: هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةَ: ﴿رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صَالِحًا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ﴾ ﴿﴾ (وَمِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ بَرْزَخٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ يبعثون﴾ قَالَ السُّدِّيُّ: الْبَرْزَخُ: مَا بَيْنَ النَّفْخَتَيْنِ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ بَين شَيْئَيْنِ فَهُوَ برزخ.
