"And were it not for the grace of Allah upon you and His mercy in this world and the Hereafter, a great punishment would have touched you for that into which you were drawn." There is a displacement in this verse; he says: And were it not for the grace of Allah upon you and His mercy, a great punishment would have touched you in this world and the Hereafter for that into which you were drawn. The "drawing into it" (al-ifadah) refers to when a man would meet another man and say, "Has the news of what was said about Aisha and Safwan not reached you?"
﴿وَلَوْلا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَة لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَا أَفَضْتُمْ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيم﴾ فِيهَا تَقْدِيمٌ؛ يَقُولُ: وَلَوْلا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَا أَفَضْتُمْ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ، وَالْإِفَاضَةُ فِيهِ كَانَ إِذَا لَقِيَ الرَّجُلُ الرَّجُلَ، فَيَقُولُ: أَمَا بَلَغَكَ مَا قِيلَ مِنْ أَمر عَائِشَة وَصَفوَان
