"They have already denied you regarding what you say," that they are gods. "So they cannot avert [the punishment] nor [obtain] help," for their gods cannot avert punishment from them nor can they obtain help for them.
﴿فقد كذبوكم بِمَا تَقولُونَ﴾ أَنهم آلِهَة ﴿فَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ صرفا وَلَا نصرا﴾ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُ لَهُمْ آلِهَتُهُمْ صَرْفًا للعذاب وَلَا نصرا.
